Why Leadership Matters

At Camp Onidah, every Trailguide and Battalion Leader is handpicked for their character, capability, and commitment to the Lord. They are:

Returned missionaries, Eagle Scouts*, and Eternal Warriors instructors

Fathers, mentors, and active priesthood holders in their communities

Trained in youth safety, outdoor skills, and spiritual mentorship

Fun, focused, and fiercely devoted to lifting the next generation
*We don’t affiliate with the Boy Scouts of America, but many of our leaders bring that experience.
What is a Trail Guide?
“We don’t lead from the front or the back.
We walk alongside them.”
Each Battalion (a small team of 6–8 young men) is led by an adult mentor who stays with them all week called Trailguides who:
Lead devotionals and spiritual check-ins
Model servant leadership and emotional safety
Join in all War Games, smithing, and swordsmanship activities
Are trained in both youth protection and gospel-centered guidance
Every Trailguide undergoes a background check, training in emergency procedures, and orientation in the Eternal Warriors model.

Camp Director
Bryton Peterson
"As a teenager, I attended and worked at several summer camps. I discovered a love for the outdoors, adventure, and how those experiences can teach lessons.
In the 8 years I spent working at summer camps I did everything from camp counselor-in-training to camp director, and all the positions in between.
I currently lead online Sons of Helaman and Men of Moroni groups for Life Changing Services."

Riley Peterson
"As a teen and adult, I’ve worked at various camps ranging from BSA Scout camps to FSY conferences.
While working at these different summer camps I’ve served in a multitude of capacities including camp counselor, assistant waterfront director, and assistant coordinator.
As a teen, I participated in the Eternal Warriors Training program from Life Changing Services and am very familiar with self-mastery principles.
I have received a degree in recreational therapy and am now a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)."

"I spent many years helping young men learn how to live disciplined lives as I served them in religious and outdoor adventures.
I am an advocate of servant leadership and strive to practice its principles in my personal stewardships and to train those around me in the principles.
I am a certified Eternal Warriors Mentor through Life Changing Services and have serviced there behind the scenes for over a decade. I enjoy training others in teamwork and leadership skills."
